I’m always fascinated by people’s stories of homes and houses so fully here for the potential part 2! Loved this piece, it sparked so many memories of houses I’ve lived in that I might end up writing a similar piece of my own. I’ve lived in 13 different houses too, if I count each of the houses I lived in for each year of university separately - which I don’t always because I still lived with my parents for 6-7 months of the year when I was a student (why are university holidays so long?).
Ah amazing, I’ll continue then 😂 I used “addresses where I received post from friends” as my criteria (which is why I didn’t include Ireland in the total tally) - bit arbitrary mebbes but works for me!
It’s half drafted so watch this space! So many wormholes opening up into memories I’d forgotten and family stories. Addresses where you got letters in the post is a good criteria, think that would still leave me on 13.
Fascinating - more please! Made me think how many houses I've lived in - 12, if you count one we went back to as two occupancies. And I'm a tad older than you. I think I've moved less than most people. Generations matter too - my mother had Hummel figures.
What’s been most interesting is seeing what rises to the top when I think about each place. I’m not writing much about each one. It’s fascinating to work out what feels noteworthy.
In other news the upcoming 2025 album ‘the north eastern edge’ is a lot about home, safety, shelter, privilege and where home does not exist or has been destroyed.
And did you get your deposit back? More please! 🙏🏻 Thank you
Ah, thanks! I’m sure we did. Our landlord was pretty young and liked to think he was down with the kids 😂

Ladro. There was loads of that in our house.
I’ve just edited it to TWO Lladró figurines - one of a girl running with a hoop and one of two children fighting with pillows 👌🏽
Classic.
